Acts 27:40-42

⁴⁰ And so they cut loose the anchors and left them in the sea. At the same time, they loosened the ropes that held the rudders. Then, hoisting the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach. ⁴¹ But they struck a reef, and the vessel ran aground. The bow became stuck and remained unmovable, while the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the waves.

⁴² The soldiers decided to kill the prisoners lest any of them might swim away and escape.
